In a recent video, I joked about the glare in my glasses from the giant window in my office. It was subtle - but you noticed it immediately.


That’s the point.


Small visual distractions stand out. And when it comes to professional headshots, those small details shape perception faster than most people realize.


Why Glasses Glare Matters in a LinkedIn Headshot

Glasses glare is one of the most common issues I see in professional headshots. Many people don’t even realize it’s happening in their current LinkedIn profile photo.


The issue isn’t the glasses themselves.


It’s what the glare communicates.


When someone views your profile photo, they are not consciously critiquing lighting technique. But they are subconsciously registering polish and attention to detail. None of which reflect the capable professional actually wearing the glasses.


Your profile photo should not say, “this was taken in front of a random window.” It should feel intentional.


How to Eliminate Glasses Glare in Your Photos

The good news is that glare is avoidable. It is not random. It is a technical variable that can be controlled.


Here are the most effective ways to reduce it:

  • Adjust the Light Source: Light reflects at predictable angles. Raising, lowering, or slightly repositioning your light source can redirect reflections away from the camera lens.
  • Refine Your Head Position: Small changes in chin height can dramatically alter the reflection path. This is why having someone else take your photo helps - you can focus on micro-adjustments instead of holding the camera.
  • Slightly Tilt Your Glasses: A subtle downward tilt - often just a few millimeters - can eliminate glare without changing your appearance. A small lift of the arms above the ears can shift the angle enough to solve the issue.
  • Use Professional Retouching When Needed: In a controlled studio setting, any remaining minor reflections can be reduced in post-production. Ideally, though, the problem is solved before the shutter clicks.


Details Shape First Impressions

If you wear glasses, your headshot simply requires a little more technical attention. That is not a disadvantage. It is part of the craft.

Your LinkedIn profile photo is often your first introduction - before the meeting, before the email, before the pitch.

Make sure it reflects you - not your window.
