WHAT TO WEAR FOR A HEADSHOT SESSION (CHARLOTTE EDITION)

Your outfit can make or break your headshot. The right clothing helps you look polished, confident, and professional—without distracting from what matters most: your face.


Here’s what we recommend for clients in Charlotte preparing for their upcoming headshot session:

✅ DO:

  • Stick with solid colors or subtle patterns
  • Blues, grays, jewel tones, earth tones—these always photograph well. Avoid pure white unless layered with a jacket or sweater.
  • Wear clothes that fit well
  • No oversized sleeves or tight collars. If it bunches up when you sit or feels uncomfortable, it will show in the photo.
  • Make sure your clothes are clean and ironed
  • We can retouch a blemish, but we can't un-wrinkle a shirt that’s been in the laundry basket since 2020.
  • Bring a second shirt, blazer, or outfit option
  • Even if you only get one final photo, having a second look gives you variety and flexibility.
  • Keep jewelry and accessories simple
  • Unless it’s your signature look, go for timeless and subtle. You want the attention on your expression—not your earrings.
  • Get a haircut or blowout the day before
  • You’ll feel sharper and more camera-ready. Just avoid experimenting with a totally new look right before.

  • Wear busy prints, neon colors, or reflective fabrics
  • These can confuse the camera sensor and distract from your face.
  • Try a new hairstyle on shoot day
  • Stick with what you know works. A bad hair day is not the vibe for a photo shoot.
